DYSPLASIA

Cervical dysplasia is a precancerous lesion that it is important to detect. Cervical dysplasia is caused by the HPV virus, and progressively develops into more severe lesions. Dysplasia has no symptoms. Dysplasia is suspected on the basis of a positive HPV test, supplemented by a smear taken by a doctor showing cellular abnormalities. Treating these lesions can prevent cancer.

The term “human papillomavirus” (HPV) refers to various DNA viruses of the Papillomaviridae family that can infect humans.

PAPILLOMAVIRUS

Papillomavirus is the name of a family of viruses that affect the skin (warts) and mucous membranes (particularly the genital mucosa: “cockscomb” or condyloma). They are also known as HPV.  Around a hundred HPV viruses have been identified to date as responsible for genital or cutaneous infection.
